Two years ago, our community set out on a journey to find the perfect permanent home for The Open School—a space where students could pursue their interests and shape their own school. Today, we stand on the brink of turning that vision into reality.
We are thrilled to share that we are set to close on our dream property in early to mid-February! Located in the heart of Santa Ana, this campus will be a hub for student-led learning and our democratic community, complete with outdoor play spaces (we’re thinking nature playground and a treehouse), creative workshops (makerspace, anyone?), independent study spaces, and social gathering areas.
But this dream isn’t just about securing a property—it’s about securing our school into the future and making sure every student has access to it.
The Final Stretch
We have been funding this project by issuing school bonds, and all of our enrolled families are participating. However, some families need additional support to meet this commitment so we have been securing sponsors from our community. Thanks to an incredibly generous sponsor, we have a $90,000 matching opportunity to help support families who need assistance with their student bonds. And, excitingly, we only need $35,000 more to complete the match!
And beyond that? Just $55,000 more will allow us to fully fund every student bond request—ensuring that every child who wants to be part of The Open School can do so, regardless of financial barriers.
How You Can Help
- Sponsor a student bond: Your support helps cover a student’s bond obligation, and you’ll receive your full investment back at maturity. Sponsorships start at $5,000.
- Bonds as investments: Each sponsored bond is connected to an enrolled student and they mature (i.e. you get your money back) when that student matriculates. We have students scheduled to graduate anywhere from 18 months to 8 years from now, and annualized interest options are available. It’s a meaningful way to support the school while making a secure investment and receiving a return!
- Or, make a direct donation: Every contribution brings us closer to fully funding our school and ensuring that no student is left behind.
