Happy October! This month, our virtual program has hosted a variety of fun events and activities, and we’re excited to share them with you!

We kicked off the month with Session 1 of our Offerings. These six-week classes are led by our staff for our students and it has been quite the success! You can read more about our Offerings in this blog post.
We also launched a Capstone Cohort for our teens, who are beginning work on their personal capstone projects. Each student can apply their unique skills and talents to a project of their choice, which they will present at graduation. It’s been inspiring to see their creativity flourish!

Our bi-weekly group advising meetings have been busy as well. This month, we explored two key topics: responding to challenges, which encouraged students to reflect on their experiences and develop new strategies for overcoming difficulties, and a discussion on happiness, success, and life satisfaction. We asked, “How do you define success and happiness?” and “What does it mean to be satisfied with your life?”.
In the third week of October, two of our staff members hosted our second monthly parent circle, focusing on “Life After The Open School.” Cassi and Pat delivered an informative presentation on the various options and opportunities available to our students and their families post-graduation.

The final week of October was packed with Halloween-themed activities. Students enjoyed screenings of “A Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Corpse Bride,” participated in a spooky drawing activity, and shared some scary music. On October 31st, the entire program came together for a Halloween-themed Kahoot game and collaborated on a haunted Open School Mad Libs story. After the festivities, staff and students tested their knowledge of monsters, witches and the origin of Halloween with some fun trivia. Then on November 1st, students showcased their trick or treat goodies during our Candy Haul activity!
